You can book up to 1 month before date of commencement via our application form (only fill in the following fields: applicant, information about the group, Tour Code, and if necessary: important remarks).

Booking of intercontinental flights:

In principle you book your own intercontinental flight and arrange your transfer to the hotel where you become acquainted with the group on day 1 of the program at breakfast time. On your request we can book your intercontinental and/or arrange a transfer on arrival. Your travel day must be on the above mentioned start date of the tourprogam.

The tour ends on day 16 after the farewell dinner.


On an individual basis or together with other guests in your group, it is possible to extend the trip to Omo valley and / or hike in Bale Mountains (from Aregash lodge or Awassa); Western Ethiopia, Awash NP and / or Harar (from Langano). Price for the extension request.

DAY 1: Excursions in Addis Ababa
You make a city tour and visit a museum of your choice (National or Ethnological Museum), the Holy Trinity Cathedral with the Mausoleum of Emperor Haile Selassie and his wife and the nearby Kiddist Maryam church where Emperor Menelik and his wife are buried, The Entoto mountains with Entoto Maryam Church and museum, and finaly the market district of Mercato. The day finishes with a traditional meal in a cultural restaurant while enjoying the traditional dances and music of various ethnical groups.

DAY 2: Drive to Debre Markos
Via the Entoto mountains and highlands you drive to the Debre Libanos monastery which has an age old and interesting history. Enjoy the wonderful view over the Robi Gorge during a lunch stop in the Ethio-German Lodge. A highlight of today is the impressive 1000 m deep Gorge of the Blue Nile.

DAY 3: Drive to Bahir Dar and visit the Blue Nile falls
Through the beautiful, fertile countryside of the Agaw people you arrive at lunchtime in Bahir Dar.
In the afternoon visit the waterfall of the Blue Nile which is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Africa.
Finish the day with a sunset on the hilltop where the summer villa of emperor Haile Selassie is built, with beautiful views over the Nile, Bahir Dar and Lake Tana.

DAY 4: Boat trip on Lake Tana and afternoon at leisure.
In the morning sail to some of the more than 20 churches and monasteries on the islands in Lake Tana are. You'll visit the 16th century Ura Kidane Mihret Church with its beautiful murals that 100-250 years old. There is also a museum with very old church treasures, handwritten Bibles and silver crosses. Hereafter you visit one of the nearby churches
On your free afternoon you can explore the city and visit the market (by foot or rent a bike), walking along the lake or just relax at the lakeside.

DAY 5: Drive to Gondar
Morning drive to Gondar and afternoon visit to the 17th century castles of Emperor Fasilada and his successors, Fasilada's bad and the beautiful 17th century Debre Birhan Selassie church.

Day 6: Excursion to Semien Mountains
In the morning drive to Debark and after lunch you drive into the mountains for a hike of 1 to 3 hours to enjoy the magnificent views at Michibi. You also see the troops of hundreds of Gelada Baboons. The males with their long manes are impressive, especially when they fight with each other.

DAY 7: Drive to Axum 
Via a long and impressive route on the edge of the Semien Mountains and through the Gorge of the Takeze river, passing small towns and stone farmhouses of Tigray, you drive to Axum, the old capital of the mighty Kingdom of Axum with its obelisks and king’s graves.

DAY 8: Excursions in Axum
You visit today the 2000 year old obelisks, the Archaeological Museum, St. Mary of Zion church where the "Ark of the Covenant" (made by the prophet Moses) is said to be hidden and several royal tombs from the 4th to 6th century. Overnight in Yeha- or Sabean hotel

DAY 9: Drive to Mekelle
Again via a beautiful mountain landscape with breathtaking hairpin bends and mountain passes you drive to Mekelle. En route visit the ruins of the approximately 2500 year old Yeha temple and for the men a visit to the Debre Libanos monastery is interesting. This is the oldest monastery in Ethiopia from the 4th century and built on a "amba" (flattened mountain) which is only accessible by a rope along a steep cliff. En route some of the more than 120 rock-hewn churches of Tigray can be visited such as Wukro Chirkos and Abreha we Atbeha

Day 10: Drive to Lalibela

The beautiful landscapes are again a surprise so you don’t get bored of the long drives. There is always plenty to see along the road and in small villages that you pass. En route visit the Yemrehane Kristos Church which is built in a cave in Axum style with layers of stone and wood. This church is older than the churches of Lalibela. In the cave you also see the remains of many of the pilgrims who came to Yemrehane Kristos to spend the last days of their live.

Late afternoon you arrive in the high mountain town of Lalibela where the famous 13th century rock churches.

DAY 11: Excursion to the rock hewn churches
Under the rule of King Lalibela (13th century) are 11 churches carved out in the rocks or from one huge solid peace of rock, connected by narrow footpath and stairs. These wonderful churches are built with the help of angels as the legend tells. When you see them, you start to believe this! These churches are still in use and have a medieval mystical atmosphere. So take time, not only see but also to breath in this atmosphere.

DAY 12: Flight back to Addis Ababa and drive to Butajira 
In the morning you fly back to Addis and after lunch, you drive through the beautiful rolling hills of the Gurage region to Tiya to visit the appr. 600-800 year old gravestones.

DAY 13: To Aregash lodge or Awassa
Via a part of Rift Valley with its beautiful lakes, drive to the beautifully situated Aregash lodge, built in Sidama style, where you can enjoy the tranquility, nature and the song of many birds. You take a walk with a local guide through the forest to a Sidama settlement. Late in the afternoon you can observe hyena’s near to the lodge.

If the Aregash lodge is fully booked, you overnight in the cozy town of Awassa, which is beautifully situated at the shores of Awassa lake. This university town has a pleasant climate and friendly atmosphere. There are many shops, a colorful market on Monday and Thursday and cosy terraces. You can walk nicely on a dike along the lake where you can see many water birds, fishermen on small papyrus boats and locals who come swimming or washing clothes. A trip on the lake with rowing or motor boat to the "Hippo-corner" is also possible. (All excursions are optional in Awassa, so for your own account). Or relax at the hotel where you can enjoy the beautiful view over the lake or take a dip in the pool.

DAY 14: Excursions Aregash lodge or Awassa, afternoon drive to lake Langano 
If you have slept in Aregash lodge, you drive after a good breakfast in the open air to Awassa where you can choose what you do (see description above). After lunch drive to the Langano and enjoy your stay at this beautiful lake. Overnight in Sabana Beach Resort or Langano Vacation Club

If you spent a night in Awassa, visit around 8.30 am. Scenic Awassa fish market at the lake side and the adjacent park where many beautiful colobus and black / white gureza monkeys can be seen. On the waterfront you can see many different species of water birds.
After lunch drive to beautiful lake Langano for a relaxing stay in Sabana Beach Resort or Hara Langano lodge.

DAY 15: Relax at Lake Langano
A wonderful day at leisure by your local style bungalow, at the beach by the lake or by the swimming pool. You can also rent a canoe or horse, play beach volleyball, tennis or billiards, take a massage and enjoy your meals in the cozy restaurant. The souvenir shop has beautiful and original gifts. Active people can make an optional excursion (not included) to the nearby Shalla/Abiata National Park.

DAY 16: Cultural boat trip to Tulu Gudo island, drive back to Addis and night flight home
Early morning you drive to lake Ziway where you cross this beautiful lake by boat for a visit to the historical Tulu Gudo island where the Zay people established their culture 1000 years ago. They came from North Ethiopia and took the Ark of the Covenant from Axum to hide the relic for the fury of Queen Yodit who destroyed many churches in North Ethiopia in the 11th century. Walk on the beautiful island with a local guide and In the historical church on the island you can see church treasures of 1000 years old.

Through the Rift Valley drive back to Addis. After the farewell dinner it's time for check in for your night flight back home.
